D->NUT Stuff Heusinkveld Sprint Brake Pedal Mod
Welcome to our first review of a product that we feel is one of the biggest bang for buck performance mods that will transform your Sim-Racing experience. What we're going to look at here is the mod we have been extensively testing and leveled up our performance with on the Road Racing Circuits of iRacing and the Rally Stages of DiRT 2.0!!!
We were very pleased to work with the D->NUT Stuff company found on ETSY in utilizing this very adjustable brake pedal mod for the Heusinkveld Sprint Pedals. These guys have been instrumental in providing the Sim-Racing community with such upgrades like the T-LCM brake mod for the Thrustmaster pedals, tools for those pedals and we kept a close eye on what they would come up with next. The Fritosport team had been competing in the American Muscle Series in the Ford Mustang FR500S and took the AM championship there while racing with the crew from D->NUT along with many others. The D->NUT team also runs a GTE Vette in The Simpit GTE Championship and therefore it was a no-brainer that when they came out with a Heusinkveld mod, WE JUST HAD TO TRY IT!
Before we get into reviewing the mod and sharing what we have found in it, here's a quick run-down of our experience in real life and sim racing to let you know how we view braking in street to race vehicles.
*REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE:
- OEM to Fastbrakes 11"+ Rotor and Caliper upgrades (Porsche/Corrado) with Prelude and Integra Type R calipers
- Carbotech Panther XP pads, EBC brake pads among other compounds and brands
- Bigger Master Cylinder and Booster upgrades plus Brake Bias adjustments
*SIM RACING EXPERIENCE:
- Logitech G27 brake w/Ricmotech LC mod
- Fanatec V1 brake with BJSimracing mod
- Heusinkveld Sprint with SZ Simracing, Sim3D.co.uk, 3drap.it elastomers mod
I will say that going from real to sim, we knew what to look for in what we wanted from our brakes in the various cars we drive in the simulation. The Software Profiles are great that Heusinkveld provides. That paired along with the mods we have tried, things felt good. BUT NEVER DID THEY FEEL AS GOOD AS THEY DID WITH THE D->NUT STUFF Sprint Pedal Mod. One look at the mod and you can see that they have taken the time to test, test and test. The fact that they provide you with various elastomer hardness choices (more than any other mod out there), just goes to show the amount of time put into the mod. On the soft settings, you can see that you have the travel you could possibly want and the proggresive brake feel you expect from brake pads applying the pressure to the brake rotor.
Once you take a look at the supplied instructions/guide, you feel like these guys have put in the effort just as if they were the OEM manufacturer/supplier. You could use your Sprint pedals with socks all the way up to driving boots as we do. We drive with PUMA Speed Cats and we communicated what we were looking for in our brakes to D->NUT. He was able to work with us to find exactly what we were looking for. A nice bit of brake pedal travel along with a progressively harder brake. Just as the feeling you get when trying to balance your race car headed to the corkscrew at Laguna Seca while modulating the brakes and finding the balance in the car just before lock up to securely point it at the tree ahead and head down it toward the following turn.
We have tested this mod numerous times and in many cars, you may need to adjust elastomers or the Sprint software profiles depending on the car you are jumping into, be it an open wheel F3, MX5, OPEL Kaddett Rally car or a GTE car. Our most recent test was the deep braking zones at Monza, the chicanes and sweeping corners. I can tell with confidence that I did not have lock ups, was able to brake well into the braking zone and able to come off the brakes smoothly to navigate the chicanes. The sweeping corners allowed for great light trailbraking as needed to balance the car and get the front end the grip it needed to rotate. On the Rally side of things, we most recently ran in Spain on wet and dry tarmac, plus dirt stages in Monaro Australia. There we found our current Opel rally car handled very well. It was predictable, the load transfer was manageable and this allowed us to have some of our fastest runs in the car.
Finally, I want to state that I think our search for the perfect brake pedal mod is here. Other mods sometimes left me with not enough pedal travel, others too much or a spongy feel. The D->NUT STUFF Sprint pedal mod is all we need moving forward. We are currently on the "Pro Race" setting and will finish out The Simpit GTE Championship on it, The Ricmotech Classic Sprint Series Championship, The Simpit Historic Rally Championship and will soon be in the RUF Track and ABL Formula 4 cars. Our recent success in leagues I will say has been majorly influenced by this mod. Perfect balance of cost, efficiency and performance.

DNUTSTUFF'S HVD SPRINT PEDAL MODS - Throttle and Clutch!!!
Welcome!!! Once again we continue to work with and appreciate the time and effort Mike N. at DNutStuff puts into creating some amazing parts for Sim Racing peripherals like pedals and the American Muscle Series products.
Today, we are taking a quick and straight-forward look at some additional pieces he has produced for the Heusinkveld Sprint Pedals. We already have reviewed the amazing feeling Brake Pedal Mod (which we run in Pro-Race setting). Now we will look at these two additions:
- The Heusinkveld Sprint throttle mod
- The Heusinkveld Sprint clutch mod
First off, the brake mod has been increasingly successful in helping us achieve 3 different championship titles. The added braking confidence and adjustability was a huge improvement over stock!
Now, the THROTTLE MOD, is one that Mike supplied and asked us to test in a couple of configurations. Once we settled on the 2 RED and 1 BLACK elastomer (replacing the spring method) we took it out on track. While we initially were concerned of not having a throttle that would respond quickly to "stabbing the throttle" (for MX5's, etc...) we QUICKLY found out we had nothing to worry about. The throttle feels very responsive and I am actually amazed at how quickly the pedal comes back for a quick responding throttle. It also added a little more resistance on initial pressure and it helped make it a more realistic feeling.
The CLUTCH MOD, also replaces the spring it initially came with from the OEM. Here we used the ALL BLACK elastomers and adjusted the leverage. The fact we were removing the clutch spring also caused me to worry here as to the feeling you get when a clutch engages (Pressure Plate, Clutch disc, Flywheel). BUT, once again, I was proven that I had nothing to worry about. The pedal, once tightened up and tested, still had that feeling of a clutch, however it now felt more like an AFTERMARKET CLUTCH. The kind we would run on our track cars. It was now a bit heavier to engage, BUT it still retained that clutch engagement feeling. It really wound up causing me to not be lazy with my shifts and ensure I was fully engaging the pedal and shift. I was missing less gear shifts!!!
Overall, I can say that installation is very quick! The pedal mods have been great! The brake mod, being the one that helped us gain much more time and precision. The throttle and clutch mods helped the pedals feel more like they're all a real working "set". The clutch and throttle now feel more like a real life car I have driven on the track with after market clutch, pressure plate and flywheel.
If you own a set of Sprint pedals, I would definitely give DNUSTUFF items a try as the overall adjustability and improvement in feel/realism has delivered an experience that continues to bring me closer to my Road Racing and Rallying roots. We tested these mods in various cars. Mostly all H-Pattern for testing of the throttle and clutch. If you've picked these up, enjoy dialing the mods in with these cars like we did!!!
